Adventures of a Bag Lady- Part Deux!

I had to go to the dreaded grocery store today- not my favorite chore to say the least. And when I got to the checkout I realized I only had 2 compact reusable bags in my purse (the rest are in my old purse) and of course I did not remember to bring in my cloth bags. So I stratigically placed the smallest items on the belt first and the largest items- milk, juice etc.- last. I told the bagger to stuff those bags as much as she could. She did and then she started to immediately go for the plastic. I said, "Wait. Let's do like Costco and just put everything else in the cart- no bags please." She did and I had a plastic bag Aha moment! On previous trips I would reluctantly take the plastic bags figuring I was only taking 1 or 2 and I was making an effort. For some reason I automatically thought that you had to have everything in a bag. Here's the AHA moment- you don't have to bag anything (except liquor I believe). You can simply refuse the bags altogether!! WOW! What a concept.

Now here's where the wind got knocked out of my sails... As I was leaving the checkout stand- so proud that once again I got out without any plastic bags- I heard the checker say, "She wants paper inside her plastic." What the- who the- what the??!! The customer behind me was completely negating my valiant no-bag efforts in one feld swoop. And so it goes...
